UPDATE: Stay at Home Orders from Arapahoe, Adams and Douglas Counties
An update from Heather Hankins, 2020 SMDRA Chairman of the Board. Discussion about the recently announced ‘stay at home’ orders from Arapahoe, Adams, Douglas and Jefferson counties in Colorado.
Script from Heather’s Video
Moments ago, the Tri County Health Board which has jurisdiction in Arapahoe, Douglas, and Adams Counties issued a “Stay at Home” order that will go into effect tomorrow (March 26th) at 8 AM.
This very serious step will impact all of our lives, and is a very strong effort to control the spread of the COVID-19 virus. We at SMDRA will do everything we can to spread the word about this order and to comply with the mandates for public health.
In the order, the Board provided a list of essential services that are necessary to serve the public. Real estate transactions, real estate appraisals and other businesses that support transactions made the list. We’re happy to report that our elected officials and important health administrators recognized the importance of ….providing shelter….securing home ownership as essential to our economy and our way of life.
Jefferson County is making a similar order. At the time of this video, we have not been able to read the order but have specific assurances from Jefferson County commissioners that the real estate language is in the order.
With regard to showings, open houses and inspections, CAR and NAR is recommending to avoid doing them unless it is essential to your client. For example if your client is living in a hotel, then this would likely be considered essential. Please remember fair housing guidelines and if asking your clients if they have been to another country or are feeling ill. Treat everyone the same! Please check out the CAR website and the Covid Portal for the new CBA Covid Form Addendum to address your contractual issues and communicate with all parties. Now is the best time to show our value as Realtors to our clients.
While I’m pleased to report that we can continue to assist people buy and sell homes, by no means is this “business as usual” I strongly encourage you to read the order, to pay attention to what our health officials are telling us to do, and to be wise in your business choices.
