The South Metro Denver REALTOR® Association, abbreviated SMDRA, is a professional organization for real estate professionals who sell real property and businesses that work in the real estate industry. SMDRA provides a variety of services to its members including education and professional development, legislative representation, networking opportunities, access to tools and resources, as well as membership in the Colorado Association of REALTORS® (CAR) and the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR). SMDRA is the second largest local real estate association in Colorado, currently with an all-time high membership of 5300+ serviced throughout the Denver metro area. SMDRA also has approximately 315+ Business Partner members in real estate related business who serve as our trusted Business Partners.
Members who hold the title REALTOR® are licensed real estate professionals who choose to voluntarily subscribe to a strict Code of Ethics that is above and beyond the law. The word REALTOR® is a registered trademark that can only be used by members of a local, state and national association of REALTORS®. People who do not subscribe to the strict Code of Ethics are not members of a REALTOR® association and are simply real estate licensees.
Our organization originally began in 1945 when the Englewood Board of REALTORS® was approved by the National Association of Real Estate Boards and had only 8 male members. Carl Hall was elected as the first President. The purpose of the organization was “to unite the real estate men of the community for the purpose of protecting and advancing real estate interests”.
In 1958, the name changed to Englewood / Littleton Board of REALTORS® and in 1969 to the South Suburban Board of REALTORS®. The ground breaking of the Broadway and Mineral building was held in 1979 and completed in 1980. Finally, in 1992, just as the building was expanded to keep up with growing education and membership demands, the name was changed again to the South Metro Denver REALTOR® Association, or ‘SMDRA’ as many fondly know it as today.
After extensive research and analysis of where the current membership resides, and the continually growing and expanding needs of those members, SMDRA made the decision to find a larger space for the Association. In August of 2018, SMDRA sold the building at Broadway and Mineral in Littleton, CO. With the proceeds from the sale of the Broadway and Mineral building, SMDRA was able to purchase a new building located in Centennial, CO, near the intersection of Arapahoe Road and Peoria Street – 6436 South Racine Circle. During the later part of 2018 and most of 2019, SMDRA completely remodeled and upgraded the building that was purchased. SMDRA completed the remodel and moved into their new headquarters the second week of September 2019.
The new building boast 29,151 square feet of space, and is referred to as SMDRA’s Real Estate Destination. The building has a large Event Center and outdoor patio, to host large events and classes. There is also a separate Training Center, for smaller, more intimate classes and meetings. The entire building contains state-of-the-art technology that enables members and guests to experience their time at SMDRA in comfort, with the latest technology at their finger tips, as well as keeping their costs down. The SMDRA Studio, is an on-site video recording studio, that allows leadership and members to use advanced video recording and editing technology to help the Association with communications and assist in growing member’s businesses. The entire second floor of this building is available for real estate related businesses to lease space, and call this amazing building their home. The Event Center, Training Room and Patio are available to members and the general public to rent for meetings, weddings, holiday parties, special events, etc.
2020 marked SMDRA’s 75 Anniversary as an Association, and our new building on Racine Circle in Centennial has definitely set the stage to take SMDRA into the future – 75 Years and Beyond!
