Fair Housing Training

FAIR HOUSING TRAINING - REQUIRED BY NAR

REALTORS® are required to complete Fair Housing training upon becoming a member, and every 3 years thereafter, coinciding with the Code of Ethics training timeline. This requirement is in addition to the 2.5 minimum hours of Code of Ethics training. Qualified Fair Housing training must be a minimum of 2 hours of instructional time. The training must meet specific learning objectives and criteria established by the National Association of REALTORS®. This requirement will begin January 1, 2025, with a deadline of December 31, 2027.

ALL REALTORS® Must Complete a Fair Housing Course Every 3 Years

All REALTORS® must complete the Fair Housing training by December 31, 2027. Failure to complete training during any cycle will lead to suspension of membership for the January and February immediately following the cycle deadline, with termination of membership starting March 1 after the cycle deadline.

Current Cycle: January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2027

Future Cycles: January 1, 2028, to December 31, 2030

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is there a cost associated with completing this requirement?

NAR Fairhaven is provided at no cost. Most of SMDRA’s classes do not have a cost unless they are a certification or designation class.

I have completed C2EX training. Does that satisfy this requirement?

Yes – C2EX requires completion of the Fairhaven course, and therefore will  satisfy the requirement, if completed during the current 3 year cycle.

Will a Fair Housing training by a state licensing authority satisfy my Fair Housing training requirement?

SMDRA will only accept Fair Housing classes completed through a REALTOR Association (including NAR and CAR) or our online partner, The CE Shop.

Do I still need to complete Fair Housing training if I have Emeritus Status?

NAR Emeritus members do not have to complete Fair Housing training.

I have completed my Fair Housing training. How do I submit my certificate of completion?
