2018 SMDRA Paint-A-Thon
The South Metro Denver REALTOR® Association’s (SMDRA) Charities and Community Involvement Committee is always on the lookout for opportunities for our members to give back to our community and support various causes.
On August 8, 2018, we had the opportunity to partner with Brothers Redevelopment, a Denver-based nonprofit organization that provides housing and a variety of housing-related services for the region’s low-income, elderly and disabled residents; at their annual Paint-A-Thon. The Brothers Redevelopment Paint-A-Thon, is an event that has become one of the state’s largest volunteer events serving seniors. Created in 1978, the Paint-A-Thon is a free service for elderly or disabled homeowners who need their homes painted, but cannot afford a commercial paint job.
TEAM SMDRA was formed by reaching out to our REALTOR® and Affiliate members, assembling those who were interested in setting aside a day from their busy work schedule, to assist a local disabled Littleton resident repaint the outside of their home. Starting right at 8:00am, our volunteers, with the guidance of two Brothers Redevelopment staff members, Sacha and Hannah, went straight to work scraping, prepping and painting the home.
The Association provided lunch, drinks and snacks, for a day that was filled with lots of hard work and dedication by SMDRA Team members. During down times, the team got to chat with the homeowner and learn a little bit about her story. The home TEAM SMDRA painted during the event was for a mother and daughter. The daughter is a full-time caretaker of her elderly mother, who resides in the home.
Everything in life happens for a reason, and TEAM SMDRA found this day to be quite serendipitous. As it turned out, the homeowner actually served as a REALTOR® for 40 years in the State of New York! What a special connection and an absolutely perfect way to make this day of service even better!
Here’s a look at TEAM SMDRA in action!
