In order to be a REALTOR® member in good standing, you must pay your yearly dues to the association. Unpaid memberships are inactivated the first business day in January.
This is a combined 6-hour course that SMDRA offers every other month and must be taken with the first 90 days of joining the Association. The New Member Ethics class (also known as GRI: 106 – Ethics and Professional Standards) ensures that new REALTORS® know and understand the high professional standards and code of ethics that they are held to. This class also counts for 4 hours of continuing education credit.
The Orientation educates new members about the many benefits and resources available to them through their REALTOR® association, including REALTOR® only tools such as REALTOR® Property Resource and Sentrilock electronic lockboxes. The class also covers the correct use of the REALTOR® trademark, helpful tips about REALTOR® safety, how the association advocates for pro real estate business environments, and how the association staff can help agents and members.
The National Association of REALTORS® requires all REALTOR® and REALTOR® Appraiser members to complete an NAR Ethics Update course during the NAR’s pre-determined 2- year cycle. Current cycle information can be found on NAR’s website HERE.
The course can be taken online through the NAR Website for free (the online class does not come with CE credit), or through your local association. If taken elsewhere, certification must be provided to your local association to keep your membership in good standing. SMDRA offers this class once a month, and it is FREE for SMDRA members.
As a matter of ensuring quality of training and that reporting requirements are met with regard to the National Association of REALTORS® Required Ethics Training, beginning January 1, 2017 SMDRA will not accept courses delivered other than those administered by a REALTOR® Association at the local, state or national level, or online through The CE Shop or VanEd.
